This week's theme: Handwriting Showcase!

 

Each week, you will find a set of activities to carry out based around a theme: this week's theme is handwriting! Please have a look at the documents below to find out more about the tasks to carry out.  We look forward to seeing some of your work!

13th - 17th April is Handwriting Showcase! Have a go at the activities below...

Reception

Activity 1

Practise your letter formation using the rhymes you have learnt in phonics. 

See the attached formation mat to help with this.

 

Activity 2

Let’s play a game!

If you can, print out the letter formation map. 

Throw a dice onto the mat. 

Write the letter the dice lands on the number of times the dice says.

 

Activity 3

Practise writing out simple words such as mat, sit, sing, thin etc...

See the attached RWI Green words list. 

How many can you read and write this week?

Year 1

Activity 1

Practice your letter formation using the formation shown below:

Activity 2

Write your name, days of the week or any of your spellings without taking your pencil off the page until the end when you will need to dot the i and j and cross the t etc.

 

Activity 3

Write a review on one of the books that you have read. You may include any of the following:

  • Title, author, illustrator
  • A brief description of the storyline
  • Character description - your favourite character, the worst character
  • Draw a character - label it.
  • What was your favourite part? Why?
  • What didn’t you like? Why?
  • Design a different front cover - remember to include title and author

Years 2- 6

Activity 1

Practice your letter formation using the formation shown below:

Here you will be able to see how each letter is formed by watching a short video clip. This is the formation that we use in school as per the school policy. If possible, you can also download the worksheets to use.

Use these exciting ways to practice letter formation: draw in flour/salt, water painting (paint on the paths with paint brushes and water), chalk, drawing in the air, write on each other’s back with your fingers - can you guess the letter?, write in shaving foam, gel pens, felt tips etc... Challenge: can you come up with your own inventive ideas?
